The Angel project
Welcome to The Angel...
The Angel is now open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
10.00am > 4.00pm, Saturdays 10.00am > 1.00pm
The Angel was built in 1760. In times past, when Langport
was actually a port and boats plied the River Parrett from
Bridgwater and the Bristol Channel, there was a custom office in
the town (allegedly at The Angel). For a brief 25 years in its
long history the building was renamed The Old Custom House.
...and now The Angel lives and breathes again!
Unoccupied and deteriorating for nearly two years, The Old
Custom House Inn, a Grade 2 listed building was bought
by Langport Church Community Trust, (registered charity
no. 1106686) with the idea of redeveloping it in to a centre
for the community, giving it a new lease of life.
What would the church be doing rebuilding a pub?
Apart from the fact that the church is about people, we believe
that the centre of our community is Langport. It is where many of
the people from local villages and Parishes come for everyday
shopping, seeing the doctor, visiting the Post Office and meeting
So far, with the help and good will of countless people, the main
part of The Angel has been renovated and developed in to a Cafe
which offers a variety of ‘home-cooked’ cakes and sandwiches,
lunches and a good selection of hot and cold drinks to suit every
pallet! Remember we also provide Wi-fi internet access too...
Other facilities planned include disabled access, meeting rooms
(for clubs, societies and businesses etc.), start-up work space,
and a permanent facility for youth activities – in fact, everything
you’d expect from a centre for the community.
